Susan Monarez was let go from her position as director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wednesday.

“When CDC Director Susan Monarez refused to rubber-stamp unscientific, reckless directives and fire dedicated health experts, she chose protecting the public over serving a political agenda. For that, she has been targeted,” attorneys Mark Zaid and Abbe David Lowell wrote in a statement.

Susan Monarez is out as director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) — less than one month after taking the role. The White House fired her after she refused to quit amid pressure to change vaccine policy,
